Songs Inside my Head

So last night, while I'm in bed in an attempt to get some rest from my long and busy day from work, school work, and helping a person with her computer something pops in my head: " This time we'll take it slow (Take it slow oh oh ohh)This time we'll take it slow"

Again and again I hear these lyrics play in my mind. Enough to drive a person to the brink of insanity. I like this song, which is oddly called "Ordinary People" by a new artist called John Legend. This new artist seems to be really good. He's more of the neo-soul sub genre. The more and more I listen to this song, the more it seems to have some relevancy to my life. Such lyrics such as "Girl im in love with you/ This ain't the honeymoon/ Past the infatuation phase" have a air of familiarity.

Right now, I have this song called "Spies" from this UK band called Coldplay stuck in perpetual repeat in my head.

Have you ever heard a song on the radio you really like and after hearing it, it stays with you for a while. And it doesn't matter if you like the song or not. I've had songs stuck in my head that I've really really hated. I remembering having tunes from Television songs stuck in my head like the Adams Family theme, the Knight Rider theme, the Simpson Theme and even the CSI: Crime Scene Investigation theme, which I really hate.

Which brings me to one more thing, our Brain.

Our brain is an amazing, yet complex mechanism. It has the ability to remember from the best things in our lives to even the worst things and even the trite things. Hmm…it must have been the brainchild of some higher intellectual entity. Once more is that our brain is working even when we are not actually using it.

Whose really in control though? Think about it. Some of our everyday bodily functions are really controlled by our brain. Including;

  1. feeding reflexes
  2. thirst
  3. body temperature
  4. regulation hydration
  5. heart rate
  6. bladder function
  7. water preservation function
  8. hormonal/neurotransmitter regulation
  9. ovarian function
  10. testicular function
  11. mood & behavioral functions
  12. wakefulness
  13. metabolism
  14. sleep cycles
  15. energy levels

I just thought about something. What if we had more control over our brain? Would it mean a more healthy state of being? Or would it mean that we actually mess up our mind and body? Think about the implications. Let's imagine that person did have more control over his/her brain. Say for example a person who is obese or wants to loss weight, they could simply adjust their metabolism to a higher rate. Let's say that you are in a bad mood. With a simple mental alteration, you are in the best mood of your life even though the circumstances that catalyzed your prior less-favored mood are still present. Feeling sleepy after lunch break and you need a boost of energy? You could simply make a mental alteration and you feel a rush of energy. Married and not wanting to have kids? Mental birth control. No need to explain if you read the list of functions controlled by the brain above.

Now one thing I would not mess with is my bladder functions. I think I prefer my brain to have exclusive control to it.

Hmm...man, that's an interesting thought.
That would be interesting if I could lower my hormone levels to remain neutral until I can get married or if I could go without sleep forever.
But no, I don't think that I'd want to control my bladder functions.
Can't genetically enhanced people out of Star Trek do all of that?
Always Yours,
Diane
P.S. I love(and hate)all of the songs you just mentioned!Wow...weird.
