Television: Resource or Refuse?

Refuse: Something that is discarded as worthless or useless; rubbish, trash, garbage

Resource: a source of aid or support that may be drawn upon when needed

As I progress more and more in age in my post-adolescent years, I'm coming to the realization that Television is a waste of one of my most important resources, Time. Don't get me wrong. I love watching Television. I love watching the daily news, movies, and of course cartoons. Gotta love those MTV reality shows like Real World or Road Rules. The point is watching television takes up my number one resource, Time. I mean I could be doing lots of things such as doing my taxes, reading my Bible, doing papers/assignments, reading a book, learning something new,
learning how to cook, etc.

My time is so short these days. I feel as if I'm being stretched too thin. I've thought about scrapping Satellite TV( once my livelihood) in lien of something like Netflix. I firgured that there's more inconvenience with popping in a DVD in the ole DVD player than watching Satellite TV. That inconvenience could serve as a negative reinforcement to minize T.V watching. It's an option I've considered. I need to do something. Besides, satellite is rather expensive. It will continue to experience rate hikes. Currently, my bill is about $47 per month, but that could increase to $3 dollars more.

Television can be a resource only when something is gain from its utilization. An example would be useful information. I can't really acquire much useful information from watching Spongebob Square Pants or The O.C.

Televisions can be a form of refuse when nothing valuable or meaningful is gained.

Six Reasons not to Watch Television: **

1. The Sex
(It sells, doesn't it. Must everything be about sex these days. Whatever happened to moral values?)

2. You could become more violent
(I have to admit when I see anything like Star Wars with the lighsaber action. I sometimes, imitate the light saber thing in my own privacy of course. Sometimes, I even fantasize about being in a bar fight; I want to hit people in the head with beer glasses until they break. Oh, I guess that's not a good thing to fantazise about. )

3. You'll waste your life
You could have spent more time with your family and friends instead of watching TV. You could have spent more time studying which could have meant admission to medical school or a scholarship to the college you really wanted to attend, or...I think you get the picture. Wasting time means wasting your life. Most TV wastes your life. ( I agree.)

4. You'll get fat
TV encourages you to just sit there and let your mind more or less go blank. You pick up pounds sitting there night after night, not getting any exercise.Obesity can lead to diseases later on in life. Sitting there in front of the tube is not good for your health. Walking outside in the fresh (or semi-fresh if you live in the city) air is much better. ( I agree. I think that I eat more when I watch tv; I'm trying not to lose my flat stomach. No beer gut for me.)

5. Your mind will go numb
While TV shows make great topics of conversation amongst friends, future admissions officers at colleges and universities and employers, for instance, will not be impressed with your ability to recite, alphabetically, the cast of your favorite TV show. They will want to know that you are an individual who is aware of the world around him or her. That means someone who is engaged in intellectual pursuits, more specifically reading and DOING things in the community. ( I agree.)

6. You'll get lazy
You will also become lazy by depending on this box to entertain you instead of being creative and finding ways to spend your time more usefully. TV can make you a dull couch potato. ( I agree.)

**The words were copied from the website hyperlinked aboved in verbatim and do not necessarily reflect the ideas, thoughts of Captain Oblivious or the Daily Bugle and other its subsidaries.

Since the Daily Bugle is about being fair and unbiased. I have added an link that explains why a person should watch T.V.

I must find that dividing line, so that this utilization is moderate and not excessive. Or I could always trade it for something like a Gym membership and get buff. Not saying that I'm not already am buff, because my muscles are freakin rippling through my shirt.

I've managed to finally watch an episode of 24. It's such a good show. It's high quality, good acting, and an plot-twisting storyline. I'm already a die hard fan and I've only seen five episodes of the four season. I have so much catching up to do.

Besides my daily battle with Television overindulgence, I'm working on my book. It's a science fiction about an epic struggle between two alien races and three adolescents with special gifts that are somehow caught in the middle.

I want my book to be action-packed, but I have trouble writing it. I want the action sequences to be vivid and easily understood by my readers(if applicable). It goes to show that writing a book, is no easy task. If I'm fortuate, I may have it finished by next year.

Hopefully, whatever I write, it will not be refuse, but something that will be very special and meaningful.
