A Superficiality
When you see me smile right before we parted
I’m not really smiling
when you see me laughing
I’m not really laughing
you see it’s a facade, a cover-up
you see it’s nothing more than a superficiality
when you see me look into your eyes from a far distance
I’m not really looking into your eyes
when you think I’m thinking of you
I’m not thinking of you
when we reminisce about the past while looking at old photos
I’m not really experiencing the same nostalgia
you see it’s a facade, a cover-up
you see it’s nothing more than a superficiality
when we dance together under the cool light of the moon
I’m not really dancing with you
when we have dinner with the oceanic backdrop and the sound of the crashing waves
I’m not really dining with you
when we hold hands while walking on the beach under the twilight coat
I’m not really holding hands with you
you see it’s a facade, a cover-up
you see it’s nothing more than a superficiality
when we exchange words on the phone
I’m not really listening
I’m really thinking of ways to tell you
to tell you that there is someone else
to tell you that I don’t want to be with you
to tell you that I can’t be with you
you see I don’t want to be your causation of pain
you see my true feelings must be shrouded
you see when we are together it’s nothing more than a superficiality
