This past weekend I saw Sponge Bob Squarepants much to the chagrin of my groupies who were forced to join me. I thought the movie was pretty good. It had a lot of humor and wit, not to mention pure silly fun. There was major character development on the part of the Sponge Bob; his wanting to mature into a "Man” in the movie was interesting. I just love Patrick, the starfish; he's the token sidekick with the funny one-liners and senseless antics.
Anyway, my friends think I’m a strange person because of my interest in a fictitious sponge that lives in a pineapple under the sea. Next, come Star Wars: Episode 3. I really want to dress up as Anakin Skywalker with a "red" light saber. Again, my friends think that it's a silly idea, but I shall motivate them to open up their mind and live a little.
What is a Liberal Elitist Snob?
My co-workers’s friend coined this term. It means a person, who possess a savvy-ness in a certain field, but who looks with disgust upon those who are oblivious to this savvy-ness. The savvy-ness could be pin pointed to computers and the Internet. As a library staff member at a rural community, there is a digital divide that is present. It's not uncommon for a person to look at a computer with utmost trepidation and fear. Now here is where the word snob comes in. When those people, who have no knowledge of computers or the Internet, surround me I sometimes get a little frustrated (unless it’s some cute female) or even show some arrogance. I know that arrogance is not the best trait to have and so I am working on it. It just kills me when a person uses one of the Library computers, it takes them 25, 000,000 years to type their name. They peck and hunt each and every keyboard button and sometimes it's really funny. I know, I know, bad, baaad me. I should be ashamed. But I have to find humor in a workplace somehow or else I might end up driving myself crazy from the consistent moments of boredom and the aggravation dealing with the Public.
I, Captain Oblivious, am a liberal elitist snob. As such, I make fun of people without much computer knowledge. I laugh when they ask me to fax a paper to an "email address". I laugh when they cannot distinguish between a keyboard and a mouse. I laugh when they think the Systems Administrator at a rural library is responsible for glitches at Yahoo.com. I laugh when composing a simple email message to some is as hard as performing brain surgery. I laugh when they expect Internet Explorer to open after several minutes of staring down the monitor.
It's not that I think of myself as better than these people, it's just funny sometimes. I try to help others increase their computer experience so that they too can have access to the weath of information that's been made available. I would to see people become computer independent, able to perform simple, intermediate and advance computer functions without any help.
The shift from computer illiteracy to computer proficiency must take place.......

I thought I was the only one who did that.
People who are not the least bit computer literate who are living in the more affluent countries of the world really, really rile me.
Sometimes, I just want to shake people who live here and do that and yell "HELLO?!?You live in America! This is the richest country in the world! You don't have to go far to get access to the internet! If you can't afford a computer, go to your library and learn how to use one! After you join the rest of the world, maybe you won't be so broke!!!!D-U-H!!!!!!!"
However,it IShilarious watching people who look at a computer like it is an alien from intergalatic space.
And yet and still,I've always wanted to scream at people like that"It's just the Internet!Don't freak out! Spend a couple hours on this thing, you'll find it's effing child's play!!!!!!!!"
If that makes me a liberal elitist snob,so be it.
I am not offering any apologies.
Cool entry,Kevis.
Always yours,
Diane
P.S.I'm glad you enjoyed Spongebob, although, since people are always watching Nickolodean in my house, I now hate him.Don't let me deter you, though.
P.P.S.Fooey on your friends who can't be a little more open-minded. There is nothing wrong with an adult liking Spongebob. There's nothing wrong with wanting to dress like you're an extra for a Sci-Fi movie. And there's nothing wrong with being considered strange.I'd be more concerned if people thought me normal.
P.P.P.S. I like the word "savvy-ness". Can I use it?
