Opinions...BAD!!!!

Call me objective, logic-driven, a robot, but opinions are unequivocally obsolete and meaningless. In this so-called knowledge-driven society we live in, we have to constantly endure the personal views of politicians, peers, relatives, loved ones, the media, and our significant others. Just the other day, a co-worker gave me her unsolicited view on social security benefits. Really, what bearing will her opinion about the matter have the success or failure of the US social security system. The answer is none.

Nonetheless, I do acknowledge my hypocrisy, in this regard. I do voice my view about certain things, but usually I try to be as objective as possible. I just want some objectivity in a highly subjective world? Is that asking too much? I know that humans are governed more by emotions, values, customs, and other subjective intangibles, but what about the raw facts that actually makes sense.

As an example, the media blew up weeks ago with the dueling between two co-stars in a highly popular opinionated show on ABC. The name of the show is called the "The View". Interestingly enough, the purpose of this show is to encourage opinionated yet constructive dialogue between four to five diverse commentaries. Why watch a show about people voicing authoritatively their opinions, why can't they create a show called “The Fact" which consists of objective, non-subjective dialogue, who is nonetheless diverse commentators who rely on the applications of information and knowledge?

It boils down to this incontrovertible truth: Unfounded Opinion equals conflict. Conflict equals interest. Interest equals ratings, buzz, sales, and more conflict.

To be dispassionate is to be irrelevant.
